The Damon™ System advantage with Dr. Blair Feldman

Something big has happened in the orthodontic world, and it’s no other than Damon braces, which allow your teeth to move more comfortably and easily than traditional braces. With the Damon System, achieving that perfect smile will be faster and easier than you ever thought possible.

You're probably thinking, "All right, Dr. Feldman. Give me the specifics on how Damon braces are an advantage."

Time-Saving

Damon's innovative technology of self-ligating braces saves you time in orthodontic treatment. The Damon system allows for fewer trips to our offices, as well as faster movement of your teeth than with traditional braces. The light forces applied by Damon braces are "biologically compatible" meaning that they work with your body for gentler and quicker tooth movement.

Comfortable

Damon System braces have a unique slide mechanism that allows Dr. Feldman to use far lighter forces to move teeth to their correct positions. That makes your treatment not only shorter, but it is also far more comfortable.

Because of its unique sliding door, the Damon bracket allows us to use high-tech, light-force wires to achieve tooth movement. This means less pressure on your teeth for more comfortable treatment. Not every orthodontist uses Damon self-ligating braces. The reason Dr. Feldman does is simple: it means your experience in uncovering your radiant new smile will be more comfortable and convenient than ever.

Dr. Feldman is a certified Damon System provider. To learn more about the Damon System, or to schedule a consultation wiith Dr. Feldman, please give us a call at (623) 544-1334.

Arizona's Next Top Smile at Feldman Orthodontics

At Feldman Orthodontics, we love having fun, and that includes offering our patients exciting contests. In 2009, our Next Top Smile finalists received a professional photo shoot. Those photos were seen by hundreds of thousands of people! This year, the winners took part in a studio and 'on location' photo shoot.

Some of the contestants have braces on. Others have already completed orthodontic treatment. A few of them are future patients. They all have fantastic smiles!

We had more than 100 entries this year. Each of them had an amazing smile and it was only with the help of local area dentists and their staff that we narrowed the group to 40. Photos coming soon!

Ask Dr. Feldman: Who benefits from braces?

Braces aren’t just for pre-adolescents and teenagers anymore! Dr. Feldman and our professional team will tell you that anyone, at any age, can benefit from orthodontic treatment, whether it’s correcting a problem not treated in your younger years, or catching a problem early.

To ensure the best overall treatment, the American Association of Orthodontists, or AAO, recommends that children receive an orthodontic consultation as early as age seven. If a problem is evident, taking action early can spare a lot of treatment and expense down the road.

If you never received orthodontic treatment when you were young, don’t worry! You’re never too old for a beautiful smile. Set up an appointment at Feldman Orthodontics for a consultation and find out how adult orthodontics will transform your smile, as well as your life!

The advantage of Invisalign Teen™ at Feldman Orthodontics

Dr. Blair Feldman knows image is everything. At an age when image is so important, the thought of having metal brackets and wires constantly attached to teeth may intensify the already-delicate confidence of today's teenagers. But - not to worry! There is a clear alternative to traditional braces! Our team at Feldman Orthodontics thought we'd remind you that Invisalign Teen™ gives you a whole new way to wear braces for a "clearly" amazing smile!

So how does Invisalign Teen work, you ask? Much in the same fashion as Invisalign, but with a few added characteristics tailored specifically to teenagers’ lifestyles. For instance, Invisalign Teen is designed with “compliance indicators” that fade from dark to light during the two week period that particular tray is used and once it has faded teens know to change trays. Each aligner comes with up to six free individual replacement aligners in case the original aligner ends up lost or broken. Another big benefit for the patient!

Right now, take advantage of a $500 special at Feldman Orthodontics. Here's how it works: We'll take $500 off any Invisalign Teen case and $500 off for parents in treatment. Remember, Dr. Feldman is an Invisalign 2010 preferred provider.

The treatment period for Invisalign Teen varies from nine to 18 months. If your teen is considering orthodontic treatment, please give us a call and we’ll answer any questions you may have. Happy Tuesday!

Ask Dr. Feldman: When should my child come in for a check-up?

Many parents assume they must wait until their child has all of his or her permanent teeth to visit Feldman Orthodontics, only to discover treatment would have been much easier if started earlier. Did you know the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child have an orthodontic check-up no later than age seven?

That’s right—seven.

Ok, so what’s so great about age seven, you ask? Enough permanent teeth have arrived for Dr. Blair Feldman to make a determination about whether any problems are present. The first molars have come in, providing an opportunity to check for malocclusion, or what we call “bad bite.” Also, the incisors have begun to come in, and problems such as crowding, deep bites and open bites can be detected. Orthodontic evaluation at an early age also provides one of two positive outcomes: For some, early identification or problems will lead to easier or shorter orthodontic treatment in the future. For others, a healthy prognosis will provide immediate peace of mind.

Early evaluation, of course, may signal a need for early treatment. For some children, early treatment can prevent physical and emotional trauma. Aside from spurring on years of harmful teasing, misaligned teeth are also prone to injury and are detrimental to good oral hygiene. So, if your child is nearing his or her seventh birthday, please give us a call at Feldman Orthodontics to schedule an appointment.

Feldman Orthodontics, helping tackle facial injuries

At Feldman Orthodontics, we know how important it is to protect your face. The spring months bring an increase in outdoor activities and a greater chance of damaging your precious mouth and pearly whites. Dr. Feldman and our team also know sports-related injuries are common among children. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, 70 percent of parents said their biggest worry is that their child will get hurt while playing sports.

That’s why the team at Feldman Orthodontics are doing our part to spread the word that facial sports injuries can be avoided simply by reminding your kids to wear mouth guards. Ask us—Feldman Orthodontics is an authorized Under Armour Mouth Guard provider.

In addition, the AAO has provided the following tips for keeping your kids safe on the field. Please remind them to:

• Wear mouth guards during contact sports
• Wear a helmet
• Stretch before and after a game or practice
• Wear protective eye wear
• Wear a face shield to avoid scratched or bruised skin
• Be observant—even as a spectator

All of these can reduce injuries. Only by using a mouth guard and other forms of facial protection can kids with and without braces avoid serious sports injuries. Be sure to avoid mouth guards that custom form to your teeth as these will resist any tooth movements we are trying to achieve. Lastly, please give us a call if you have any questions about mouth guards or your treatment at Feldman Orthodontics.

Ask Dr. Feldman: Why is it so important to have straight teeth?

Some people wonder why Dr. Feldman and our team at Feldman Orthodontics work so hard to give our patients straight teeth. Of course it’s nice to have a smile full of evenly aligned teeth, but did you know that straightening your teeth can keep them (and you) healthier? Straight teeth lead to better oral hygiene, increasing your chances of keeping your own natural teeth for a lifetime.

Straight teeth are less prone to decay, because they collect less plaque—the sticky colorless substance that forms on our teeth and leads to tooth decay; and they are easier to keep clean!

If you’re wondering whether your teeth might cause problems because they are out of alignment, give us a call to set up a consultation. Dr. Feldman can help you decide whether or not you will benefit from orthodontic treatment at Feldman Orthodontics.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Meet Our Orthodontist

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and then moved off to college at the University of Michigan - Go Blue! After college I attended dental school at the University of Pennsylvania. I received my D.M.D (Dental degree) and Masters of Education during my 4 years in Philadelphia. I decided to further my dental education by pursuing a graduate degree in Orthodontics immediately after finishing dental school. I attended the University of Detroit Mercy Graduate Orthodontics program.

Following my residency I moved to Arizona with my wife who is a Cosmetic Dentist in Scottsdale. We have two sons and a Standard Poodle named Marley who all love to come visit the office. In our spare time the four of us love to be outdoors. We enjoy hiking, biking, sailing, water skiing and driving around the beautiful Southwest. My wife has run 2 marathons and I have completed the 109 mile Tour de Tucson twice. We are always looking forward to new and exciting healthy outdoor adventures!

Professionally, I am a member of the American Board of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity. I am also on Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix where I provide orthodontic treatment for patients with Cleft Lip and Palate and other Craniofacial Anomalies.
